Sabor Mexicano Restaurant

Nestled in the heart of Los Angeles at 1151 Venice Blvd., Sabor Mexicano Restaurant is not just another Mexican eatery; it’s a celebration of authentic flavors that transport you straight to the vibrant streets of Mexico City. As a food reviewer for Café Encore, I find joy in discovering hidden gems, and Sabor Mexicano is a shining star on LA’s culinary map.

From the moment you step inside, the warm and welcoming atmosphere envelops you, inviting you to explore the tantalizing menu. The passion for traditional Mexican cuisine is evident in each dish crafted by skilled chefs who understand the essence of good food. Their attention to detail sets them apart, as highlighted in a review by local food enthusiast Gus Zdanovich. He raves about their chicken burrito, perfectly marinated and grilled, wrapped in a tortilla that boasts a delightful char—a meticulous touch that elevates the overall experience.

  • Chicken Burrito: A crowd favorite, praised for its marinated chicken and expertly grilled tortilla.
  • Chilaquiles: Described as the best by multiple patrons, featuring a harmonious balance of flavors in the red and green sauces. Diners like Char express pure joy over these dishes, an indication of the kitchen's expertise.
  • Green Enchiladas: A must-try, recommended by long-time customer erickmac88, who suggests topping them with chopped bistec for an added flavor boost.
  • Chiliquiles with Tomatillo Sauce: This dish has garnered raves for its perfect green sauce, complemented by fresh ingredients, as testified by guest David Sturgiss.

One cannot mention Sabor Mexicano without acknowledging the rich, creamy refried beans and the Mexican rice that accompany many dishes, providing a comforting backdrop to the vibrant flavors of the main courses. Customer feedback indicates that these sides are crafted with care, avoiding an overload of lard while still delivering on taste and texture.

While the restaurant is celebrated for its delightful offerings, there are whispers of suggestions such as enhancing the salsa taquera to elevate it from good to extraordinary, showing that even the best can strive for improvement. This ethos of striving for perfection is what continually draws patrons back for more, as each visit reveals new layers of deliciousness.

For those who appreciate genuine Mexican cuisine, Sabor Mexicano Restaurant stands out as a beacon of authenticity in a city bustling with options. Whether you’re reminiscing about meals from home or discovering new favorites, this spot deserves a place on your culinary itinerary. With a cozy ambiance, attentive service, and food that pays tribute to the traditions of Mexico, you’ll find yourself eagerly planning your next visit. Don’t just take my word for it—experience the joy of home-cooked flavors that truly resonate with the heart!

The deceptive simplicity of making a chicken burrito has been decoded...Their Mexican rice tasted amazing, the refried beans were flavourful and creamy (yet with some texture), without too much lard. The chicken was marinated, was grilled to perfection and so was the tortilla in the burrito, omg, such a nice touch to grill the burrito even if it was slightly, but it still made it so special. I have no words. The service was amazing, and the atmosphere felt very cozy and welcoming in every way. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to taste what real Mexican (and please understand I'm making a sweeping generalization here) food is all about. I think the style was from Mexico City, which has some of the best food in the country. I look forward to stopping by again and try some of the other menu offerings! One tip for the owners, is that the salsa taquera on the side tasted just hot but didn't have any oomph. You mat consider adding some garlic, lime juice, cumin, and/or allspice-oregano, to make it a little more interesting? Still, it's most among the best three chicken burrito I've ever had! Highly recommend.

Pretty good chiliquilies with tomatillos and chili green sauce and 2 eggs on top. I got my eggs over easy, included onions, cheese and sour cream. The green sauce was nearly perfect, supplemented by a side of medium green sauce 'cuz I like extra sauce.

Another solid, local Mexican restaurant. Great Chile, great burritos, just like abuelita used to make em.

Amazing little hole in the wall. I first came here about 5 years ago and I keep on returning. I highly recommend the green enchiladas. Ask for a piece of chopped bistec on top. So good.
